Приєднався 6 жов 2011
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft, OBE (30 August 1939 -- 25 October 2004), known professionally as John Peel, was an English disc jockey, radio and TV presenter, record producer and journalist.
John was the longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004.
He was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio, and he is widely acknowledged for promoting artists working in various genres, including pop, reggae, indie pop, indie rock, alternative rock, punk, hardcore punk, breakcore, grindcore, British hip hop, electronic music and dance music.
Peel's Radio 1 shows were notable for the regular "Peel sessions", which usually consisted of four songs recorded by an artist live in the BBC's studios, and which often provided the first major national coverage to bands that later would achieve great fame.

John Peel's Unknown African Tune
Переглядів 3704 місяці тому
A short clip of an African tune (more likely to be Zimbabwean) played by John Peel, either in 1988 or 1989. There could be a chance that it maybe the Zimbabwe Heroes' 'Chizukuru', but I have got no strong evidence to say that.

Urrr... and Teenage Kicks? Or did I miss something?
It was released in 1978 not 1977
they are so incredible.
The best listening experience you can have with all these bands Peel Sessions is when you get the great man himself introducing the tracks it takes me back to the days when I would tape the sessions hovering over the pause button for two hours straight fucking great memories
What a stuck-up bastard JP sounds here.
Excellent. Bought the 7" after hearing this at the time (still have it). Loved the B side "Somebody Loves You" and played it to death!
I remember John Walters on Radio 1 in the evenings reviewing the music papers and culture in general. He was hilarious and is just as much a legendary figure as John Peel.
I liked a few of these. Not many...
Definitely pub rock, very campy and Dr. Feelgood-esque guitars. Fits the timeframe too, being from 1977.
I miss his voice This is such a gem 3rd time listening to over the years now
Great English broadcaster, interesting interview.
Really cool! Does anyone have a clue where they are now?
I am your father.
this track is actually called "Good Friends"
The session version was called Disgrace and then it got renamed, "Good Friends" on The Peel Sessions Bar 2 compilation.
Seen them in 88 can't remember where though lol Respect the mighty john peel ❤
UPDATE: This does originate from South Africa, and the artist could be David Thekwane, however, I am looking for the real title of this song if it is by him
Thank You very much for Uploading and sharing !!!
I so desperately want a HQ cut of this set, Gibson's bass sounds like it has the inertia of a fucking freight train. Also nice to see JSchlatt there on the right from Chippendale xP
They say that there is a rational explanation for everything. Watching some of these clips, I now doubt that!
I wish there were more of these Sound of The Suburbs episodes, such a good series and idea. John Peel is a legend
Sue Lawley has so many marbles in her mouth it’s miracle he can understand her properly
Wow. They succeeded in even annoyingbthe Punks!
argh - what was was he going to tell us??
That’s Not Loups noirs d’Haiti !

Saw these ladies perform in 88 (ish) at Ripon College Student Bar (The Wilkie) where I also bought this on 7 inch.
oh well, no-one's perfect
That's my dad in the middle
Great African sound ,I play when I'm driving, thanks John
Timeless classics
oh i remember this! I loved the day we could recieve TV Hell in the Netehrlands
This is not Two Mabone or 1815 Special.. If you listen to the 2 songs they are clearly different from this one. It’s still possible it’s a song by West Nkosi, but definitely not Two Mabone or 1815 Special.
Actually you're right because UA-cam would have identified it and told me that it was a copyright track from West Nkosi. Other UA-cam videos that have West Nkosi's music have had UA-cam identifying the track on the description boxes. However, it didn't seem to do that on this video, which may mean that it might not be West Nkosi, but an artist whose music is similar to his.
@@JohnPeel3904I also don’t think this is from south africa. I think it may be from a different country in Africa. I’ll try to narrow this down, but this doesn’t sound very similar to any other south african instrumentals around the time.
Jairos Jiri - Zvemumba Medu Ndezvedu (1988)
Thanks, I'll credit you in the description !!

They saved their best until last. This was a corker from a really nice friendly bunch of girls who did an individual paint job on every sleeve of this single, I've still got mine!
I was looking 20 years where that sample came from for Elektrochemie Schall - damn
Insanely good track
I was in DMD, but didn't know we'd been on John Peel! ua-cam.com/video/4OPHDpkON50/v-deo.html
Sounds like a Pink Floyd boot. The singer not so much.
